Weekly wrap up #4

Well, this week has brought about a delightful new development... Alex, my oldest child, began kindy!! Yep, two full days in a row! I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, so let's start at the very beginning...

Monday: public holiday, Australia Day- we did nothing! Not entirely true, I did send my husband down to Bunnings to pick up the materials we needed to put up a really cool bag rack along our hall way, however, due to poorly timed naps and not having the right tools on hand, we decided that the purchase was good enough and we would get around to the building at some other time... I did start my ultra structured daily routine, but with daddy home, it was loosely adhered to.

Tuesday: the big day! Dad back at work and Alex's first day at kindy. Alex started the day really well, got up, had breakfast, got dressed and ready... He did tell me that he wasn't going to go to kindy because it made him sad and he would cry, but I just said that it was okay to cry and I would be there to pick him up at the end of the day.

Once we dropped him off, Anna, Benji and I went to my mum's. I had a physio appointment at 11, so I was going to leave them with mum while I went. Unfortunately, when I got to the physio, the receptionist told me that my appointment was actually 11:30 and he was running late! Well, I couldn't wait that long so I rescheduled and went back to my mum's house. As it turned out, I probably could have waited for the later appointment, but oh well. I had a nice afternoon with my mum, while my sisters helped with my little children. Then we went to pick up Alex.

He was happy to see me and in good spirits. The whole way home, he told me about the bear hunt from kindy. As son as we went inside, the cheeky monkey put his hands in his pockets and pulled out a matchbox car from each saying, look what I took! He was extremely impressed with his thievery, I wasn't. I told him that we would be returning the cars tomorrow and he would be apologising to his teacher. He was extremely unimpressed with that development! So, we watched 'we're going on a bear hunt' on youtube on the iPad for about an hour.

Wednesday: kindy again... Not see easy on day 2 :/ the effort to get Alex out of bed, dressed and ready was monumental. I would have given up except, well, Alex being at kindy was on the schedule.  After I dropped him off (he was fine), Anna, Benji and I went to Mass. They were pretty poorly behaved but hey, they're still little, and we sat at the back as not to disturb everyone. We followed our schedule and made some playdough together... I have realised how little one on one time I spend with my only daughter, and how important it is for me to make sure I schedule time for us to connect!

I picked up Alex and went straight to the shops to buy a matchbox car to celebrate week one of kindy (that was how I got him to go in the morning- I know that bribery is crappy parenting according to some, but sometimes it's the only thing that gets me through!)

Thursday: begin packing... Friday afternoon, we were going to the river with my family on our annual luxury camping trip :) Usually I have packed and repacked at least three times by now, but I was delaying the pack until today- to give me something to look forward to. I know it may sound weird to some, but I love packing! The whole process! There us something about mentally noting every possible scenario and then coming up with every possible thing you may need... Then I spend the next two 'packs' refining what I'm bringing, making sure that I'm using things efficiently but also not skimping on things I just might need... It's an enjoyable process. The only downside was that Alex's behaviour was absolutely disgusting, and Anna and Benji decided to follow suit. By bedtime, I was glad to tuck them in!

Friday: pack car, pick up husband and leave! Pretty much went according to plan except two things... My house, which I had kept really neat, clean and tidy all week was attrocious, and the kids were being so vile that I left way too early just to get a change of scenery with the ridiculous notion that it would improve their behaviour. I did take them to HJs for lunch on the way down (never a good idea). Benji decided to follow his brother and sister up the playground, all the way to the top... I had to climb through the too small passageways and slide down he twistie slide with my silly baby. Unfortunately, it was over 40 degrees so instead of sliding, I was stuck to the slide and inching my way down. (So glad that the playground was empty). Anyways, we did eventually pick up daddy and go to the river, but I will write a separate post about that later...

Sunday: we went to Mass with my grandparents (where I play the organ) and wished my nono a happy 81st birthday! He was very happy to see the children and gave us a bowl of goulash for dinner (because he is the best!) We spent the majority of the day indoors, trying to keep sane with an ultra clingy Benji bear and two whingey pants, and trying to keep cool, while the temperature soared above 40. Thanks again Nono

So, here is what I wore on Sunday...

Also, big news! Anna is now a knicker wearing member of the public and most of the time, she will not wee on you (of course, there are occasional accidents!) I am very excited, I would say proud, but really, this has been a loooong time coming!
